MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION QUALIFIES UNISYS TO DEVELOP INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE

MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has selected Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) as a qualified vendor to develop a new Information Technology (IT) infrastructure for MDOT and other interested Michigan state agencies, the company announced today. Unisys is one of multiple vendors that will provide information technology services under a two-year, $15 million task order contract.
In a competition that included 26 respondents, Unisys was the only vendor to qualify for all eleven major IT categories proposed by MDOT. These services will include business process re-engineering; network development and management; information architecture development and strategic planning; rapid application development (RAD); information management; customer (end user) development; application development; IT training; IT security and disaster recovery; computer aided design and technology support. The services to all agencies will be provided on multiple computer platforms. MDOT will use the contract to move to an open systems, client-server environment.
The Michigan Department of Transportation has shown a strong sense of direction and commitment to providing the highest quality transportation services for the state's infrastructure, according to Unisys. Michigan is one of many states that are investigating new ways to be responsive to their citizen's transportation and infrastructure needs and to achieve compliance with federally mandated programs by 1995.
The information system solutions and services nature of the MDOT contract is representative of the commitment of Unisys to provide a full range of professional services to meet the information technology requirements of its clients as they provide improved services to their customers. In a major change of direction, such as that faced by MDOT, the cultural effect on the entire user community and on the technical groups directly involved is of particular importance and will be a major aspect of the solutions that Unisys will provide.
Unisys Corporation is a leading information systems company with 60,000 customers in more than 100 countries. The company is a major supplier of information services and technology to financial service, government, telecommunications, airline and other commercial markets.
