MICHIGAN CABLE INDUSTRY CREATES NEW LIVE CALL-IN SHOW ORIGINATING FROM WASHINGTON, D.C.

LANSING, Mich., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Straight from the halls of government, the Michigan Cable Television Association (MCTA) is breaking new ground in political television coverage. The MCTA is producing and airing statewide a new live call-in show titled "Michigan Cable Journal: A Call to Washington." The call-in program will feature only Michigan congresspersons and will originate from Washington, D.C.
Five programs are planned for 1993. During the shows, Michigan residents will be able to call in on an 800 number to ask questions on the air.
The first program will be produced live from C-SPAN studios in Washington on this Thursday, Feb. 18, at 9-10 p.m. (EST). It will air simultaneously to all regions of the state. Two of Michigan's new congressmen -- Rep. Peter Hoekstra and Rep. James Barcia -- will be guests on this show. The 800 hotline for the Feb. 18 show is 1-800-666-8009.
MCTA Executive Director Colleen McNamara commented, "We are very excited about this new avenue of statewide public affairs programming. And, we're proud of the outstanding commitment made by Michigan cable operators to conceptualize, produce, fund, and carry such programming."
"We think of this as another way to open government to the people," said John Liskey, general manager of TCI Cablevision and the program's executive producer.
For more information on the program, call Kimberly Maki at the MCTA, at 517-482-2622. For channel positioning in your community, please contract your local cable operator.
