MICHIGAN BLACK ALCOHOLISM COUNCIL PLANS 'ONE B.A.D.D. NIGHT'
DETROIT, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Michigan Black Alcoholism Council (MBAC) plans on making Saturday, Dec. 14, "One B.A.D.D. Night."
In celebration of its 1991 Blacks Against Drunk Driving (B.A.D.D.) campaign, MBAC will hold a dinner dance Saturday featuring a "Celebrity Non-Alcoholic Drink Mix-Off" at 7 p.m. at the University of Detroit Mercy Conference Center.
Also planned for the evening is the introduction of 50 B.A.D.D. billboards, donated to the campaign by Gateway Outdoor Advertising.
"Craig Heard, our (Gateway's) president, has taken a strong position for Gateway to take an active role in problems facing the community," commented Durand Walker, vice president and regional manager of Gateway. "Since our billboards are heavily concentrated in the black communities, we felt it imperative that Gateway get involved."
The billboards feature Frank Watson's characters from the "Homeboy's Neighborhood" comic strip.
According to MBAC President Deborah Fair, "It is very important that we continue to work to make everyone aware of the problems resulting from alcohol-impaired driving in our community. We can see the results of the communication effort."
MBAC will present an award to WJLB's John Mason in recognition of his efforts to help "spread the word," and for his contributions to the 1991 summer campaign.
One of the targeted groups for the campaign's communication efforts is young adults. The participation of Cass Technical High School's chapter of Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD) is very significant. The students will act as hosts and hostesses.
For further information concerning "One B.A.D.D. Night," or if you would like to attend, please contact Fair at 313-963-7890 or Ellen Hill at 313-963-6220.
