"With the image of Michael Jordan on the cards and the marketing reach of Sears, we fully expect the demand will exceed that of any card ever offered," said Frank Grillo, vice president of marketing for LDDS WorldCom. "We have never produced a PhonePass card targeting the collector market, but what we have seen is that many of our cards have become collector items. With the popularity of sports cards, it would be reasonable to expect the Michael Jordan card would be attractive to collectors."
LDDS WorldCom PhonePass is the only prepaid long distance card that will carry the image of Jordan, who recently signed an agreement to become the LDDS WorldCom spokesman. The card, which sells for $9.99, has 30 units of long distance, which is equivalent to 30 minutes of domestic service. It is available at 810 Sears stores and 110 Sears Hardware stores.
More people are becoming familiar with phone cards and realizing the benefits of the cards, said John Guillaume, director of PhonePass marketing for LDDS WorldCom.

Now the public has had an opportunity to experiment with the cards and realize the cards have a lot to offer," Guillaume said. "With a strong nationwide customer base, Sears provides the ideal means for LDDS WorldCom to introduce the first Michael Jordan debit card.
