LOS ANGELES, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Jackson's "Dangerous" (Epic) was the No. 1 selling record for the holiday season in the United States. For the period from Nov. 25-Dec. 29, 1991, Jackson outdistanced his nearest rival, Garth Brooks, by 300,000 units, according to the actual sales data at retail compiled for Billboard by SoundScan.
Outside the United States, Jackson's domination is even more impressive. With his album having been No. 1 in 11 countries, Jackson's non-U.S. album sales have now passed the 6 million mark.
The bottom line to these figures is simple: "Dangerous" is the fastest selling album in Jackson's career, both in the United States and overseas.
On the singles front, "Black or White" has been to the top of the charts in 15 countries. In the United States, for the week of Jan. 13, "Black or White" is No. 1 for the seventh consecutive week, tying "Billie Jean" as the most successful single in Jackson's 22-year recording career.
On Jan. 14, Epic Records will release "Remember The Time" (written by Teddy Riley, Michael Jackson and Bernard Bell; produced by Riley and Jackson) as the second single from "Dangerous." A short film directed by John Singleton ("Boyz N The Hood") is currently being shot and will premier on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 8:25 p.m., directly after "In Living Color" on the Fox Television Network and simultaneously on MTV and Black Entertainment Television.
