 MIAMI ARENA TO AWARD GRAND PRIZE FOR FIVE MILLIONTH PATRON;
LUCKY WINNER EXPECTED DURING RINGLING PERFORMANCES
MIAMI, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Take all the people in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, add about one million more and that's the number of times the turnstiles have turned at Miami Arena since it opened more than three years ago.
During the run of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus performances, from Dec. 27 to Jan. 5, the five millionth patron will walk through the Miami Arena gates. That person will be awarded a surprise grand prize.
"The grand prize awarded to the five millionth patron is symbolic of the gratitude we wish to express to all of South Florida for making the Arena a success," said Robert A. Franklin, vice president of Leisure Management Miami (LMM), which manages the Arena.
Arena officials have been watching attendance figures closely as the five million attendance mark approaches. The day the figure is reached should occur during a Ringling show, Franklin estimates. On the projected day, Arena officials will intently watch each entry gate, waiting for the lucky person to enter. When the person is identified, he/she and family will be whisked down to the front row, center ring, where they will be the "center" of attention for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey show. Prior to the circus show, the winner and family will be escorted to the middle of the center ring to be awarded the following prizes:
-- Five tickets for each of five Miami Arena 1992 concerts or
family shows of the winner's choice.
-- Use of an Arena luxury suite, for up to 20 people, at the
 Jimmy Buffett concert, Jan. 24.
-- A memento commemorating the Arena's "Five Million" attendance
 mark.
-- 10 VIP tickets to next year's Ringling Bros. and Barnum
 & Bailey Circus.
-- 10 VIP tickets to Walt Disney's World on Ice, coming to the
 Arena in April 1992.
-- Free concessions during the circus show.
 -- A circus gift pack.
Since July 1988, the Miami Arena has hosted more than 569 events, including concerts, family shows and sports events (Miami Heat and University of Miami basketball, National Hockey League games).
"This is an exciting milestone for the Miami Arena," Franklin said. "Achieving an attendance mark of five million in about three-and-a-half years shows that the public has been very supportive of the entertainment we've worked very hard to provide. We feel this facility is one of the best of its kind in the country."
The Miami Arena is owned by the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority. LMM and its parent company, Leisure Management International, together with its operating affiliates, manages eight prestigious leisure facilities in the continental United States.
