The contract was signed on July 29 in Cairo. The natural gas/heavy-oil fired steam-turbine power generation equipment on order will be added to CEPC's existing Cairo West Power Station for supply of electricity to Cairo's metropolitan area to meet robust demand. The two units are slated to go on-stream in July and October 2010, respectively. The 700 MW (megawatt) power generation equipment on order consists of two 350 MW steam turbines, two boilers, two generators and auxiliary equipment for the steam turbines. MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works will be responsible for manufacturing and installing the steam turbines. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will supply the two generators. Power Generation Engineering & Services Company (PGESCo), a power plant engineering and consulting company in Egypt, will be responsible for boilers, electrical equipment and civil engineering work. CEPC, an electricity production company under the aegis of the Egypt Electricity Holding Company (EEHC EEHC European Environment and Health Committee (WHO) ), supplies electricity to the greater Cairo region.
