MGV Memory announces availability of memory upgrades for new Compaq Armada 7700 and 1500 Series.


IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 1997--MGV Memory, a leading provider of memory upgrade modules to the reseller and retail markets, Friday announced immediate availability of high-capacity memory upgrades for the Compaq Armada 7700 and 1500 series.

The Compaq Armada 7700 is the company's newest family of high-end notebooks that features powerful MMX (MultiMedia EXtensions) A set of 57 additional instructions built into the Pentium MMX chip for improved multimedia and modem performance by performing mathematical operations on multiple sets of data at the same time (see SIMD).  processors and includes the industry's first towerable docking station (1) A cradle for a portable device that serves to charge the unit and connect it to other sources or destinations. For example, an iPod docking station charges the iPod and connects it to a computer, speakers or TV set. . The 1500 series is a line of value-priced notebooks which offers a broad range of advanced features such as CD-ROMs, Ethernet connections and PC Card slots.

To enhance the Compaq Armada's performance, MGV's new memory modules incorporate advanced technologies including 64-Mbit EDO Edo: see Tokyo, Japan.  (extended data out) DRAM and small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM (Small Outline-DIMM) A DIMM module with a thinner profile due to the use of TSOP chip packages. SODIMMs are commonly used in laptop computers. See memory module and TSOP. ) design. The SODIMM design features a 64-bit data path offering significant increase in performance over other types of memory modules.

The SODIMM modules also provide greater upgrade flexibility by allowing users to install different memory module configurations Memory modules are defined by the number of chips they contain. With DIMMs and 72-pin SIMMs, the module designation refers to the number of data words on the module. For example, an 8x32 DIMM means that 8 million 32-bit words of memory are available to the system.  in a single notebook. In addition, memory chips no longer have to be installed in pairs, SODIMM chips can now be added one at a time.
