MGM SIGNS FILM DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT WITH POLYGRAM

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) today announced it has signed an agreement with PolyGram Filmed Entertainment (PFE) under which MGM/UA Distribution Co. will be the domestic theatrical distributor of PFE's major release films to be produced by PolyGram owned units (other than Interscope, which is distributed by Buena Vista) for up to four years, beginning in 1994.
The agreement calls for MGM/UA to distribute up to four PolyGram films per year throughout the United States and Canada. The initial film MGM/UA will distribute under the agreement is "Canadian Bacon," an outrageously contemporary comedy starring John Candy, Rhea Perlman and Alan Alda, co-starring Rip Torn and Kevin Pollak, and directed by Michael Moore.
The films will be produced by different PolyGram units. Smaller release movies will continue to be distributed by Gramercy Pictures. This agreement will cover films released through 1997.
"This agreement is a great opportunity and is consistent with MGM's objective of building a strong flow of film product through our MGM/UA film distribution division," said Frank G. Mancuso, chairman and chief executive officer of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. "We are very pleased to be affiliated with the PolyGram group."
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. is involved in the worldwide production and distribution of motion pictures and television programs through MGM Pictures, United Artists Pictures, MGM Worldwide Television and MGM/UA Distribution, among others.
PolyGram Filmed Entertainment, a division of global record and entertainment group PolyGram, is the parent company of A&M Films, Interscope Communications, Propaganda Films, UK-based Working Title Films, North American theatrical film marketer/distributor Gramercy Pictures (a co-venture with Universal Pictures), and Manifesto Film Sales.
