 MGE INCREASES DIVIDEND
 MADISON, Wis., Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of


Madison Gas and Electric Co. (NASDAQ-NMS: MDSN) today increased the regular quarterly dividend to 45-1/2 cents per share on the outstanding shares of the company's common stock. The dividend, equivalent to $1.82 on an annual basis, will be payable Sept. 15, 1992, to shareholders of record at the close of business Sept. 1, 1992.
 The previous dividend of 44 cents per share has been paid quarterly since the company's 3-for-2 common stock split in January of this year. The company has increased its common dividend each year since 1980.
 MGE is a public utility that generates, transmits and distributes electricity to 114,000 customers throughout 250 square miles in Dane County. The company also transports and distributes natural gas to 90,000 customers throughout 962 square miles in Dane, Columbia and Iowa counties.
 The common stock of MGE is traded over-the-counter (OTC), is reported through NASD National Market System (symbol: MDSN) and is quoted in the NASD Automated Quotation System.
