 METRICOR ANNOUNCES SALE OF COMPANY
WOODINVILLE, Wash., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- MetriCor, Inc., a wholly

owned subsidiary of Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), today announced that it has sold substantially all of its assets to Photonetics Inc., a subsidiary of Photonetics S.A., a French photonics instruments and components manufacturer. Terms not disclosed.
Founded in 1980 and an affiliate of Corning since 1987, MetriCor is an industry leader in fiber-optic sensor instruments and systems for laboratory and industrial uses. More than 200 of its systems currently are in use in various food processing, pharmaceutical, chemical and aerospace applications, as well as in many government laboratories.
Assets sold include MetriCor's lines of fiber-optic pressure, temperature, electromagnetic compatibility, and refractive index sensors, as well as the related technology and patents.
"We determined that Photonetics provided the best fit with the MetriCor product line and operations," said Dr. Les Gunderson, president and CEO of MetriCor.
Photonetics will integrate MetriCor's operations into its Boston- based subsidiary, Photonetics, Inc., which will actively market the MetriCor product lines to the U.S. market.
"MetriCor's strengths fit nicely with Photonetics' manufacturing and marketing experience, and our extensive European sales network," said Herve Arditty, Photonetics' chairman. "This should result in continued growth for the fiber-optic technologies developed by MetriCor in the U.S. and abroad." According to Dan Stubblefield, business development manager for Corning's Opto-Electronics Group and a MetriCor board member, Corning sought a new investor in MetriCor to provide specific market experience. "Corning has contributed fiber-optic technology and manufacturing systems to the company. However, to continue to grow, MetriCor needs an understanding of the market and user applications that only an instrumentation company could bring."
MetriCor, Inc. has changed its name to Puget Sound Sensor, Inc. and will continue as a corporation to fulfill certain R&D contract obligations. In addition, Puget Sound Sensor will retain MetriCor's minority interest in Fiber SenSys, a fiber-optic based intrusion detection systems supplier based in Oregon.
