Thomas Ray Wright, 27, was taken into custody Thursday after deputies were sent to the 26600 block of John Street to check the welfare of Wright's son.

``When deputies got there, (they) found that the child was fine,'' said Detective Chevy Garza, of the Kern County Sheriff's Department's Special Enforcement Division, Major Narcotics Unit. ``But during a search of the home, they found items . . . known to be used in the manufacture of methamphetamines.''

The boy was released to his mother.

Wright, who had been previously convicted of being under the influence of a controlled stimulant, is on probation and can be searched at any time, officials said.

Inside the home, deputies found a glass laboratory flask, rubber tubing, and chemicals believed to be red phosphorus, ephedrine ephedrine (ĭfĕd`rĭn, ĕf`ĭdrēn'), drug derived from plants of the genus Ephedra (see Pinophyta), most commonly used to prevent mild or moderate attacks of bronchial asthma.  and hydriodic acid hydriodic acid /hy·dri·od·ic ac·id/ (hi?dri-od´ik) a gaseous haloid acid, HI; its aqueous solution and syrup have been used as alteratives. , all used in manufacturing methamphetamine.
