MESABA REPORTS JANUARY TRAFFIC

 MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Mesaba Aviation, Inc., today said that it flew 19.1 million revenue passenger miles during the month of January, a 27 percent increase when compared with 15 million revenue passenger miles flown during the same month last year (a revenue passenger mile equals on passenger flown one mile). The airline said it carried 92,491 passengers during the month, an increase of 26 percent over 73,339 passengers carried last January. Mesaba's load factor in January was 39.5 percent compared with 43 percent during the same month one year ago.
 "The decline in year over year load factor was due in part to the amount of new service we have implemented," said Philip L. Swenson, Mesaba's senior vice president of Marketing and Planning. "We experienced softer demand in January than we had anticipated, but our advance bookings for the next few months are in-line with our previous forecasts."
 Mesaba operates as Northwest Airlink under a marketing agreement with Northwest Airlines. The regional carrier provides connecting service to Northwest at Minneapolis/St. Paul International and Detroit Metropolitan Airports. The airline currently serves 45 cities in 15 staan's common stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol ATCC.
