MESABA APPLIES FOR E.A.S. SUBSIDY TO SERVE JAMESTOWN AND DEVILS LAKE

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Mesaba Aviation, Inc., which operates as Northwest Airlink, said that it has filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide scheduled airline service to Jamestown and Devils Lake, N.D. under the Essential Air Service (E.A.S.) subsidy program.
In its application to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the regional carrier filed for approval to provide two daily flights between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Jamestown and Devils Lake. If Mesaba is chosen, further details on its planned service would be released at that time. A decision on who shall provide the service is expected sometime this summer.
Mesaba provided airline service to Jamestown and Devils Lake from Dec. 1, 1983 to Jan. 7, 1991. "We appreciated the support given to us by the Jamestown and Devils Lake area travelling public," said Philip L. Swenson, senior vice-president marketing and planning for Mesaba. "We hope that we will have the opportunity to serve Jamestown and Devils Lake once again."
Mesaba operates as Northwest Airlink under a marketing agreement with Northwest Airlines. As part of that agreement, the two airlines coordinate flight schedules, fares and marketing programs. Passengers flying Northwest Airlink receive one-stop baggage check-in, advance seat assignments and boarding passes, and earn mileage credit in WORLDPERKS, Northwest's generous free travel program.
Mesaba Aviation, Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Minnesota- based AirTran Corporation. AirTran's common stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol ATCC.
