MESABA AIRLINES CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Mesaba Aviation, Inc. is proudly celebrating its 20th year of scheduled passenger service in 1993. Mesaba began providing scheduled airline service between Grand Rapids, Minn. and Minneapolis/St. Paul in February 1973, using one 6-passenger airplane. Now, Mesaba filed to 46 cities in 15 states and one Canadian province, and is one of the largest regional carriers in the United States.
"Growing and prospering for 20 years is a tremendous accomplishment in the volatile airline business, and the people of Mesaba are justifiably proud," said Robert D. Swenson, president and CEO. "We are now one of the oldest independently owned and operated regional airlines in the country."
The Minneapolis-based company operates as Northwest Airlink, providing service from Northwest's two main hubs at Minneapolis/St. Paul and Detroit. The airline expects to carry 1.5 million passengers this year with a fleet of 55 airliners. Passengers flying on Mesaba make connections from the Airlink flights to Northwest flights across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Mesaba Aviation, Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Minnesota- based Airtran Corporation. Airtran's common stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol ATCC.
