MESA REPORTS THIRD-QUARTER EARNINGS AND JULY TRAFFIC
FARMINGTON, N.M., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Mesa Airlines Inc. (NASDAQ: MESA) today reported earnings for the third quarter of its 1992 fiscal year and traffic figures for the month of July. The company had operating income of $8,308,000 versus last year's $3,089,000, an increase of 269 percent. Operating revenue totaled $81,807,000 compared to $81,871,000 in the prior year. Net income was $5,184,000. With average number of shares outstanding of 9,030,942, the company had earnings per share of 57 cents versus 15 cents per share for the third quarter last year exclusive of the $3.15 gain per share generated by the sale of WestAir's Atlantic Coast subsidiary. Last year's sale of Atlantic Coast Airlines resulted in a gain of $18,524,000.
As a result of the acquisition of WestAir by the company in May 1992 on a "pooling basis," financial results of the companies for 1991 and 1992 have been combined.
In July the airline carried 385,988 passengers with available seat miles of 143,384,000 and revenue passenger miles of 79,519,000. Load factor was 55.5 percent.
"While each of our six operations was profitable, there is still much work to do," said Mesa President Larry Risley. "We look forward to these challenges."
