MERRY SPY SPOOF `GOLDTHUMB' HAS FUN FOR FAMILIES; ELVES ENLIVEN COMIC MUSICAL.

Byline: Victoria Giraud Special to the Daily News

With yet another James Bond hit now playing in movie theaters, The Moorpark Melodrama's production, ``Goldthumb,'' is right on target with its comic Christmas spoof of ``Goldfinger,'' the 007 film that debuted in 1964.

This play, which will run through Sunday, provides tasteful and fun family entertainment for the child in all of us, with lots of opportunities to join in singing familiar Christmas tunes.

Goldthumb (Jon Hughes), a naughty boy who once got coal in his Christmas stocking, has grown up to become a nasty man out to get revenge on Santa and the Christmas spirit. He and his dimwitted dim·wit

assistant, Oddbob (Ron Kewish) use the rays of Goldthumb's ``forget-about-it'' machine on the local populace, and thoughts of Christmas disappear.

The ray is effective on most people, but not those with the most Christmas spirit, like Suzy (Katie Fraser). But Suzy is mighty discouraged when she finds that Mom (Judie Kewish), Dad (Wakai Jasso) and sister Cindy (Lucian Casselman) have lost their Christmas memory.

Miraculously, Suzy finds her way to Santa's Workshop Santa's workshop may refer to

Plenty of silliness abounds, but Scooter and Suzy find the villainous Goldthumb and despite his dirty tricks win out in the end.

A couple of musical highlights from the production include Amy Sullivan's Vaudeville tribute to Julie Andrews, and the comic rendering of ``The Twelve Days of Christmas'' by Mrs. Claus and her rambunctious, youngest elves.
