 CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF INVESTMENT BANKING GROUP
 NEW YORK, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MIT) today announced the appointment of Donald C. Cacciapaglia to the newly created position of chief operating offer in the investment banking group. Mr. Cacciapaglia will also become a member of the Investment Banking Group's Management Committee.
 Mr. Cacciapaglia, 41, will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Investment Banking Group except clients service and transaction execution, His responsibilities include the client coverage process, strategic planning, budgeting, professional training, management development and administrative matters.
 "Over the past several years, Merrill Lynch has made tremendous progress in expanding our investment banking franchise globally. Our ability to sustain and enhance this progress and to implement further our business strategies on behalf of our clients will be strengthened with Don in this new position," said Barry S. Friedberg, executive vice president, investment banking. In his new role, Mr. Cacciapaglia will report to Mr. Friedberg.
 Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, from 1973 to 1977, Mr. Cacciapaglia worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as an analyst. In 1977, he joined Merrill Lynch to manage the Bank Credit Department and later became the first product manager for the Money Markets Group. From 1980 until 1986, Mr. Cacciapaglia served in various capacities including product manager for mortgages as well as product manager and national sales manager globally in the Money Markets Group. From 1987 until 1991, he managed sales and trading in the San Francisco institutional office. In 1991, he returned to New York to head Fixed Income Research and Analytics.
 Mr. Cacciapaglia, who resides in Rye, N.Y., is a graduate of Manhattan College and also received an MBA from Iona College.
