      MERISEL SIGNS LANDMARK AGREEMENT TO DISTRIBUTE COMPLETE
       COMPAQ PRODUCT LINE INTO VALUE-ADDED RESELLER CHANNEL
    EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Merisel Inc. (NASDAQ: MSEL) today announced a key agreement with Compaq Computer Corp. to distribute its full line of PCs and PC systems to U.S. value-added resellers (VARs).  As one of only two computer products distributors authorized by Compaq, Merisel will support the Compaq product line through its dedicated and unique VAR Sales division and technical support team.  This landmark agreement positions Merisel as one of the first distributors in the industry to sell PCs and PC systems from one of the top three manufacturers.
    "The Compaq/Merisel partnership signifies a mutual commitment to implementing a new VAR authorization program and providing outstanding service to this select group of resellers," said Merisel President and Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Pickett.  "This was a strategic move for both companies.  For Merisel, it is a critical company objective to provide our VARs with leading brands such as Compaq, and for Compaq it allows them to cost-effectively reach an incremental market."

"It is our intent to aggressively target the VAR community and to begin building our base of authorized Compaq VARs as quickly as possible."
    Merisel's dedicated VAR Sales division presently enrolls approximately 1,000 new VARs a month and serves approximately 23,000 VARs in the United States.  The company implements market maps and other tools which are critical in selecting VARs geographically and by vertical market.  These tools will assist Merisel's Sales department in identifying VARs that would be appropriate for Compaq's VAR program.
    Data collected from Computer Reseller News and other industry publications confirms that Merisel is the distributor VARs most frequently contact.  Merisel's comprehensive VAR database identifies that the majority of Merisel's VARs utilize Merisel as their single source for systems products.  The company continues to invest in research and development to understand the buying habits of each customer group within the reseller channel.  Based on a decade of experience selling to VARs, Merisel continues to develop specialized programs and services, such as its new VAR Bid Financing program, to meet these resellers' specific needs.
