MERCURY UNVEILS INTEL CORE DUO-BASED MEZZANINE CARD.

Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRCY) has introduced its new Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo-based Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) that nearly doubles the compute resource available in an AMC form factor.

The Momentum(TM) Series AXA-100 AMC represents the industry's next-generation mezzanine standard supporting high-speed interfaces for use in both AdvancedTCA(R) as well as MicroTCA systems. The AMC is fast becoming one of the main foundations upon which communications equipment providers are building their systems.

The Momentum(TM) Series AXA-100 supports the Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor L2400 and the Intel(R) 3100 integrated chipset within a single-width full height AMC module envelope. Increased processing performance is complemented by up to 4 GB of memory and high-bandwidth fabric XAUI and PCI Express(R) links.

"The AXA-100 is an example of how Mercury is an innovative leader in deploying new technology targeted for the communications market," said Steve Grah, Strategic Accounts Manager of Intel. "An Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo-based AMC is a natural fit for deployment in both AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA systems. The use of the 3100 chipset allows for the coupling of processing performance with high-bandwidth fabric interface options, all in a single-wide AMC."

The Intel(R) 3100 chipset integrates the memory and I/O controllers, supporting a 667 MHz processor bus and single-channel registered DDR2-400 SDRAM with ECC. Four-lane non-transparent PCI Express interface and dual XAUI interfaces are implemented using Xilinx(R) Virtex-4 FPGAs in the FAT pipes region on the AMC.1/AMC.2-compliant fabric interface. Two 1000Base-BX Ethernet ports and two Serial ATA interfaces are provided in the common options region.

"The AXA-100 combines the legacy form and function of the Momentum SBC with Mercury's unmatched capability of designing and integrating a highly optimized computing solution," said Lance Turner, General Manager of Modular Products and Services at Mercury. "Coupling an Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor with a Virtex-4 FPGA results in a unique AMC offering, as it provides both general-purpose and highly specialized processing capability."

The AXA-100 Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo Advanced Mezzanine Card is available now for small quantities and with delivery times of six to eight weeks for production quantities.
