STUTTGART, Germany, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercedes-Benz AG today announced they will collaborate with ILMOR Engineering Ltd. to develop high-performance automotive engines in co-operation with this company for Formula 1 and Indy Car racing beginning in 1994.

In its debut year the team Sauber/Ilmor is currently sixth from 13 teams involved in the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship.
Mercedes-Benz will be involved in Indy Car racing together with the successful Marlboro Team Penske by its ILMOR commitment beginning in 1995. By this a support for the marketing efforts of the company in the USA shall be achieved and the sporting image which is extremely important in the American market shall be further improved.
By this step a comprehensive international motorsport concept for Mercedes-Benz under the symbol of the star will be developed: In touring car racing the latest product of the company, the C-Class, will race with the mark of quality "made by Mercedes-Benz" in the Class 1-DTM. In Formula 1, the marquee will enter competition together with Sauber under "concept by Mercedes-Benz." In Indy Car racing in America a powerful market offensive and a new manufacturing plant will be supported under the signet "powered by Mercedes-Benz."
The sport involvement in all three categories is a clear commitment to competition and will effectively support the market offensive in the media worldwide.
