MENTOR GRAPHICS, MICROSOFT EXECUTIVES LEAD ALLIANCE
 TO ENDORSE CLINTON/GORE
The heads of the largest computer software companies in the states of Washington and Oregon (Microsoft Corp. |NASDAQ: MSFT~ and Mentor Graphics Corp. |NASDAQ: MENT~, respectively) will announce on Monday that they, their companies and (at last tally) 30 other software companies in the Northwest have formed a political alliance called "Northwest Software Company Executives For Clinton and Gore."
The organization supports the technology policy endorsed by the Clinton/Gore campaign and seeks additional emphasis on issues that particularly affect the software industry, such as intellectual property, distance learning, national computer networks, etc.
The Northwest is home to almost 300 software companies in Oregon and more than 400 in Washington alone. It is a highly desirable industry in a highly desirable geographic region.
Participating in the announcement will be:
 - Tom Schneider, Science and Technology advisor and policy maker for the Clinton/Gore campaign, and author of the campaign's science and technology platform. Schneider will be in Portland specifically for this announcement and will be available for comment on an extremely limited basis.
 - Bill Halder, senior advisor to Gov. Clinton. Halder will also be in Portland expressly for this announcement.
 - Tom Bruggere, president and chief executive officer of Mentor

Graphics Corp. and co-founder of the new organization.
 - Steve Ballmer, executive vice president, Microsoft Corp. and co-founder of the new organization. Ballmer will make the same announcement later in the day in Seattle.
