UC Santa Barbara (13-5-3) went ahead on Bryan Byrne's sixth-minute goal. Daniel Paladini tied the game in the 10th minute with his goal. Ivan Becerra gave the Gauchos a 2-1 lead in the 12th minute.

The second half was a defensive struggle, with the teams combining for 26 fouls and eight yellow cards.
