MEMORIAL RIDE SET FOR CALHOUN.

Byline: Bhavna Mistry Staff Writer

SANTA CLARITA - A motorcycle ride is planned July 21 to raise money for the family of Donavan Calhoun, a Canyon High School supervisor who died last weekend.

The money will help pay for funeral expenses for the former Valencia High football and track star.

Registration for Donavan's Ride will start at 9 a.m. at Mabel's Roadhouse, 26328 Bouquet Canyon Road. The cost is $25 per couple or $15 for solo riders. The memorial tribute and fund-raiser will start and end at Mabel's.

``We're doing anything we can to offset his cost,'' said Mike DeAngelis, one of the organizers. ``One-hundred percent of the tips given to the bartenders and waitresses will also be donated.''

Live entertainment, a 50-50 drawing and a barbecue lunch will follow. Nonriders can pay $10 to join the after-ride festivities.

Preregistration is available. For information, call (661) 259-8822.

Calhoun, the Valencia Vikings first Male Athlete of the Year died Sunday while driving on San Fernando Road south of Sierra Highway.

Coroner's officials are trying to determine if Calhoun suffered a medical problem while behind the wheel of his Honda.

Donations for the family also can be sent to Canyon High School ASB, 19300 W. Nadal St., Canyon Country, CA 91351.
