SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. A formal Memorial Day service highlighted by the reading of the names of local veterans will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 N. Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling , Newhall.

Both ceremonies are expected to be held under the morning fog and drizzle that has marked much of this gray May, but sunny skies are forecast for this afternoon with highs in the mid- 70s and winds gusting to 20 mph.

The rest of the holiday weekend will be much the same.

The state Transportation Department urged motorists heading north out of Santa Clarita on Interstate 5 to expect heavy traffic as road repairs and slope stabilization continue. The work has been ongoing to repair damage from last year's rain storms.

The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph in the construction zone, and motorists who are ticketed will be fined double.

Caltrans recommends using The Old Road as an alternate .

Residents served by Blue Barrel Disposal also are reminded that trash pickup will run one day late next week.
