MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS TO HONOR THE FALLEN.

Military veterans, relatives and supporters will pay their respects today to fallen U.S. soldiers during Memorial Day events ranging from solemn ceremonies to community barbecues.

Here are some of the events planned around Southern California:

9 a.m., Topanga Memorial Day Parade, Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Pine Tree Circle. The theme is The Spirit of Topanga: Past, Present and Future.

10 a.m., Forest Lawn Memorial Park-Mortuary, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, includes a portrayal of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, a rifle salute by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department This article is about the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, not to be confused with the smaller Los Angeles County Police

10 a.m., Simi Valley Pioneer Cemetery, 1461 Thompson Lane, just west of Rancho Simi Community Park by the Arroyo Simi.

10:30 a.m., Los Angeles National Cemetery The Los Angeles National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery in West Los Angeles, at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard. The cemetery was dedicated in 1889. , 950 S. Maj. Gen. James W. Comstock will speak at the event, which will also commemorate the 31st anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.

10:30 a.m., Valley Oaks Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village, includes musicians from the Simi Valley High School Simi Valley High School is a secondary school located in Simi Valley, California which was established in 1920 as the first high school in the valley. It nestles in the Santa Susana Mountains and is adjacent to the San Fernando Valley, part of the city and county of Ventura.  Concert Band, an F-16 fighter jet from Edwards Air Force Base and nine World War II fighter planes from the Condor Squadron doing a flyover in formation.

11 a.m., Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade, Sherman Way and Remmet Street, with the theme ``Military Families Keep the Home Fires Burning Keep the Home Fires Burning

11:30 a.m., San Fernando Pioneer Memorial Cemetery, Foothill Boulevard and Bledsoe Street in Sylmar, includes speakers who fought in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

1 p.m., Forest Lawn, 1712 S. Glendale Blvd., Glendale, includes a march from the Little Church of the Flowers to the burial site of a Civil War soldier, a performance by The Band of the California Battalion and a Civil War musket musket: see small arms.
