MEMOREX TELEX CORP. AWARDS EDS CORP. DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT SERVICES AGREEMENT
DALLAS, Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- Memorex Telex Corp. has chosen EDS Corp. to manage its product integration and distribution processes for desktop systems in North America through a long-term distribution management services agreement. Under the agreement, integration and distribution for Memorex Telex's 8000 Series line of desktop systems in the United States and Canada will be assumed by EDS through its Technical Products Division, a desktop services and systems group based in Richardson, Texas. Memorex Telex will continue to build the base platforms for its 8000 Series at its Raleigh, N.C., facility, in addition to the continuation of services and installation. According to Jim Lindner, President of Memorex Telex Networks Group, the agreement will improve the company's ability to attract and support customers through a wide range of services provided by EDS. "We are now in a position to respond more quickly to the marketplace in terms of time and product availability," Lindner said. EDS will act as an order fulfillment center for Memorex Telex sales and service locations in the U.S. and Canada, with product orders placed directly to EDS' integration and distribution facility in Richardson. The contract calls for EDS to test hardware, install software and networking devices and integrate and distribute product in three days of order receipt. In addition, EDS will implement an electronic data interchange (EDI) solution that will allow direct order entry by all Memorex Telex sales staff. EDI will allow fast and accurate placement and configuration of orders by Technical Products' integration team. Robert Neighbors, president of EDS Technical Products, said by consulting with Memorex Telex's management team, EDS was able to help identify processes that will support Memorex Telex's business objectives, such as faster product distribution at lower costs. "Our inventory, integration and distribution process was developed through an EDS-designed business model and application," Neighbors said. "It was that application, operating on a highly efficient client server platform, that demonstrated to Memorex Telex our ability to effectively deliver on our services."
