SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- The Hart district's nonprofit partner has appointed a new board member.

 was named to one of two vacant seats on the board of the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Facilities Foundation board, which obtains land for new campuses in the growing William S. Hart Union High School District.

``I am flattered and thrilled to serve on a great foundation that does such great things in our schools,'' Hough said in a phone interview.

Hough is a member of the Education Foundation of the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce and was a past chamber leader. She also is involved with Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita, a professional women's organization, and she serves on the advisory committee of the Theatre Project of Santa Clarita.

``This is a lady devoted to the community,'' the Hart board president, Paul Strickland, recently said.

``In every capacity I have seen her serve in, she is an advocate for what she thinks is right,'' a facilities foundation board member, Richard Patterson Richard Patterson can refer to several people:
  • Richard Cunningham Patterson Jr. (1886-1966) - A US ambassador
  • Richard Patterson (weightlifter)
  • Richard Patterson (artist) (born 1963)
, said.

For Hough, a parent of two, working on the facilities foundation was an easy decision. One of the big reasons she moved to the Santa Clarita Valley was for the education system, she said.

``It's going to be exciting to be part of this group.''

Two seats were left vacant in the summer when Robert Lee and Teresa Todd stepped down from directors' positions.
