MEETING TO FOCUS ON FREIGHT ISSUES PUBLIC CAN OFFER INPUT ON PLANNING.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - The public will have a chance to give its input on how freight should move through Santa Clarita and the surrounding areas during a special meeting 10 a.m. today in Santa Clarita City Hall Council Chambers.

The meeting will be hosted by state transportation officials and is part of the Goods Movement Action Plan, Phase I, which breaks down the movement of freight from its port of entry to its end-use destination. This session will focus on truck and railroad railroad or railway, form of transportation most commonly consisting of steel rails, called tracks, on which freight cars, passenger cars, and other rolling stock are drawn by one locomotive or more.  transport.

Participants will discuss critical aspects of goods movement, specifically the goods movement industry and growth potential; the four port-to-border transportation corridors that constitute the state's primary routes as well as associated infrastructure projects currently under way; and the extent of environmental and community impacts, as well as a description of mitigation approaches and key aspects of public safety and homeland security Noun 1.
