A veteran business development adviser and consultant, Medrano had been hired under contract by the chamber in September 2002 to operate training classes for new business owners or people who wanted to open businesses. The chamber was formed in 1997 to help businesses affected by the growth of the Latino population in the Antelope Valley, aimed at businesses owned by both Latinos and non-Latinos. Medrano was asked to stay on as the chamber's director of operations and eventually its chief executive officer, establishing an office and getting Palmdale city funding. Medrano noted that he had expected to work for 3 1/2 or four months, but stayed on for four years. ``I will look back with pride on the accomplishments we have achieved,'' Medrano said. Medrano said he intends to work on various local economic development efforts, including a training program for local foster youths, as well as run the entreprenurial classes for the chamber. ``The Antelope antelope, name applied to a large number of hoofed, ruminant mammals of the cattle family (Bovidae), which also includes the sheep and goats.
