Wellness is the focus at hospitals throughout the San Fernando Valley.

At one end of the Valley, Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center was named among the top 100 heart centers in the nation last year.

A few neighborhoods away, the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital remains one of the nation's leading medical facilities for burns.

And as other regions are ailing with trauma center closures, the San Fernando Valley still fares well with two trauma centers - at Northridge Hospital Medical Center and Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.

Looking beyond the critical care stage, hospitals throughout this area also provide numerous programs centering on preventive care.

CPR classes, wellness fairs and other free or low-cost classes are available at most hospitals, while some provide their own distinct programs.

For example, flute player Carolyn Lane regularly visits both Sherman Oaks and Glendale Adventist hospitals to share her instrument with patients as a form of music therapy.
