Hughes will share the secret of mediation's success with homeowners, entrepreneurs, law enforcement officials and aspiring mediators at Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 16, Oct. 7 and Oct. 28 with three different course offerings entitled ``Introduction to Mediation,'' ``Mediation as a Second Career'' and ``Preventing Violence in the Workplace,'' respectively.

``Conflict is a natural consequence of our daily lives. It is our response to it that can make or break us,'' said Hughes, who has been conducting mediations for the U.S. Postal Service The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) processes and delivers mail to individuals and businesses within the United States. The service seeks to improve its performance through the development of efficient mail-handling systems and operates its own planning and engineering programs.  since 1999.

``Whether it's business, government, home or school matters, everyone can gain knowledge and learn skills for improving relationships, avoiding conflicts and enhancing productivity,'' Hughes said.

 added the courses to its schedule realizing the importance of mediation in growing communities like the Antelope Valley. The courses will touch on what mediation is and is not, its advantages and benefits, and its alternatives.

Hughes, also a teacher in the Antelope Valley Union High School District The Antelope Valley Union High School District (A.V.U.H.S.D.) is located in the Antelope Valley area of California, in northern Los Angeles County.

The district includes eight public high schools, one trade school, and two continuation high schools in the cities of Palmdale
, will demonstrate how mediations work, unveil available job opportunities, and define who makes a good mediator. The courses can be taken individually or as a series. Certification may be offered for those completing all three courses.

The courses are useful for renters, homeowners, store managers, municipal employees, teachers, those seeking a new area of employment and those that are ``just curious,'' Hughes said.
