MEDIASTREAM TO OFFER DIGITAL SOLUTIONS FOR PUBLISHERS

Presslink - Vu/Text merger brings new product to market

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Knight-Ridder Inc. announced today that it has formed a new company, MediaStream Inc., that will offer digital solutions for the print and online publishing industries.

The new company will incorporate PressLink, the 11-year-old online pioneer in providing graphic content to newspapers, and Vu/Text, formerly a division of Knight-Ridder Information Inc., that offers the popular SAVE archiving system. The PressLink and SAVE product brands will be continued.

Bob Ingle, Knight-Ridder vice president/New Media, said, "MediaStream signals a new vision for serving news organizations. This company will provide customers worldwide with the most efficient systems to acquire, store, publish and sell text and image content."

Rich Cates, who has been named president of MediaStream, added: "PressLink's online inventory of up-to-the minute news images, as well as its archived images, combined with Vu/Text's SAVE system for archiving text offers a total solution to news organizations." Cates formerly was president of PressLink.

Joe DiMarino, the former vice president of Vu/Text who will serve as MediaStream's vice president of sales and marketing, said, "We gain exciting new synergy by combining our industry leading product lines. In addition to today's new organizational announcement, we're also proud to announce SAVEcentral, the first in what will be a series of complementary publishing products from MediaStream."

SAVEcentral will serve as the central internal archiving system for a number of Knight-Ridder and independent newspaper companies.

All newspapers offering SAVEcentral access will cross-market the other newspaper archives on the service in order to create a broader distribution network.
