. Middle school, high school and college-age students perform these well-attended shows. Over the past five years, originating their own theatre-works in association with professional artists and master teachers, the students have developed their creativity even more. This summer, MECA presents "Summer Gods", a musical theatre piece written, composed, designed and performed by MECA students.

"Summer Gods" charts the course of that great icon of Pre-Columbian myth: Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered serpent, god of the arts, cultivation and civilization, and his battle with his peer, Texcatlipoca, Obsidian obsidian (ŏbsĭd`ēən), a volcanic glass, homogeneous in texture and having a low water content, with a vitreous luster and a conchoidal fracture.  Mirror, god of night, trickery Trickery

and experience. "Summer Gods" brings the pantheon of Aztec gods and goddesses to present-day Houston, and we see the creation of the world, the invention of civilization, the discovery of music, then of evil, sadness and death, all performed to the beat of music from Pre-Columbian ritual splendor to knife-edge rock and roll. The battle between creation and destruction, between good and evil is always of interest: we see it every day, and the result is always in doubt.

The score for "Summer Gods" is composed and performed by Muses, an orchestra of MECA music students, under the mentorship of David Dove, Robert Avalon and Jose Nino. Dances are choreographed by Isidro Salas. Under the direction of Peter Webster Peter Webster is an English artist and sculptor, best known for his sculpture of the British athlete Steve Ovett, which was exhibited in Preston Park, Brighton. Webster also created the statue of Max Miller, the English comedian, currently on display in the grounds of the Royal , "Summer Gods", an investigation into myth through words, dance, and music, will be performed Friday, July 26th and Saturday, July 27th at 7:00 p.m.
