MECA's Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts Concert Series Presents The Kailas String Quartet.HOUSTON -- On Friday, January 27, 2006, MECA's Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts Concert Series presents The Kailas String Quartet. Members of the famed quartet include Jory Fankuchen on violin, Stephanie Fong on violin, John T. Posadas on viola and Emmanuelle Beaulieu Bergeron on cello. Alejandro Vela, MECA artist in residence, will accompany the quartet on piano. The concert will feature the Shostakovich Piano Quintet and other chamber and solo works by Haydn and Liszt. The KAILAS STRING QUARTET (pronounced ki-lis) first met and performed at the Tanglewood Music Center The Tanglewood Music Center is an annual summer music academy in Lenox, Massachusetts in which emerging professional musicians participate in performances, master classes and workshops designed to provide an intense training and networking experience. in 2003. With the support of their mentors, including former members of the Concord and Cleveland Quartets, they officially formed the following summer. The group was recently granted the graduate quartet residency at the Shepherd School of Music The Shepherd School of Music is located in Houston, Texas on the campus of Rice University, Texas' most selective institute of higher education. Among the schools within the university, the Shepherd School is the most selective, accepting overall about twelve percent of all at Rice University. The Kailas Quartet brings together musicians from very diverse backgrounds and leading music schools and conservatories.
