Xcel Energy, a major natural gas and electricity company in the U.S. with regulated operations in 10 Western and Midwestern states, was recently recognized at the Field Service 2005 awards, in the "Seamless Technology Implementation And Deployment To Increase Service & Support Levels" category. Xcel Energy beat stiff competition from nominees in the aerospace & defense, industrial equipment, and high-tech industries to claim the award.

Part of Xcel Energy's commitment to driving standardization and innovation across the enterprise through the use of technology involved implementing an integrated outage management solution that included MDSI's Advantex for enterprise-wide mobile workforce management and other applications as part of a fully integrated solution. Implementation efforts for Xcel Energy's outage management project touched on every aspect of customer service from the customer call, to field assets, to reliability, to construction and maintenance planning, and to outage and emergency responsiveness.

Between October 2004 and January 2005, MDSI's enterprise-wide mobile workforce management solution and SPL World Group's Outage Management System (OMS) were rolled out to Xcel Energy's field service workers in the Denver/Boulder regions of Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Xcel Energy has been able to automate the work for hundreds of workers to achieve improvements in customer service, regulatory compliance and productivity.
