The value of the contract is approximately US$1 million (approximately C$1.5 million) which represents software and services.

MDSI's enterprisewide workforce management solution is part of a larger project at MLGW to integrate its IT infrastructure. Increasingly, utilities are moving from isolated, departmental systems created by decades of regulation to integrated, enterprisewide solutions that help manage a wider range of business processes and virtually all of the work the companies perform. Custom, in-house systems are being replaced with open, interoperable solutions that seamlessly exchange data from the call center right through to the field crews.

Advantex will replace existing voice- and paper-based dispatching activities that support the delivery of electric, gas, and water services to over 400,000 customers in Memphis and the Shelby County Shelby County is the name of nine counties in the United States of America, all named for Isaac Shelby of Kentucky:

Ultimately, Advantex will be interfaced to MLGW's new CIS solution, SCT's Banner(R) Customer Management System. Combined with the powerful Banner customer management solution modules, Advantex provides multiple benefits, including improved resource planning Resource planning may refer to:

Miller adds, "Advantex's sophisticated capabilities will help MLGW offer its multiple services by more efficiently managing the mobile workforce and its diverse workload."

Advantex schedules appointments so service requests are dealt with promptly and customers are guaranteed specific appointment times. It automatically assigns tasks to the most appropriate mobile resource, based on skill set or other factors, so that the job gets done right the first time. Advantex automatically distributes the workload, so dispatchers can focus on emergency situations and serve larger workforces and territories. It transmits job status information to the office so dispatchers can monitor progress "at-a-glance" and reprioritize orders. Advantex empowers mobile workers through access to critical corporate information systems, like customer records, billing and inventory, and through interactive messaging with dispatchers. Advantex also reports on performance to help senior management make decisions. And it all happens wirelessly, in real-time.
