Specifically, McKeon has said he wants to improve the quality of American education, train the work force to adapt to a high tech global economy and make regulations that are more streamlined and less costly. The House Committee on Education and the Workforce and its five subcommittees oversee education and work-force programs. McKeon succeeds Rep. John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, who was elected House majority leader, replacing Tom DeLay, who faces money-laundering charges in his home state of Texas. ``John gave me a good foundation on which to build. We have taken steps to transform our industrial age education and job training systems, but we still have a long way to go and not a lot of time to get there,'' McKeon said. ``I can't wait to get to work.'' |
