MCKEON APPOINTS MILITARY STUDENTS.

Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon has appointed 11 graduating high school seniors to military service academies and preparatory schools.

McKeon recognized his appointees -- including six from the Antelope Valley and four from Santa Clarita -- during a luncheon Saturday at Santa Clarita City Hall.

"I am proud of all our students who were admitted to the nation's service academies this year," said McKeon, R-Santa Clarita. "Our selected students have proven themselves worthy of admission to the various academies by excelling in their studies and extracurricular activities."

Students admitted to the Air Force Academy are Callie Brown, Highland High School Highland High School or Highlands High School may refer to:

In the United States:
  • Highland High School (Gilbert, Arizona)
  • Highland High School (Bakersfield, California)
  • Highland High School (Palmdale, California)
; Anthony Ruize, Serrano High School in San Bernardino County; and Bradley Ward, Desert High School at Edwards Air Force Base Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway. .

Nicholas Jurado of Canyon High School Canyon High School can refer to:
  • Canyon High School (Anaheim) in Anaheim, California
  • Canyon High School (Santa Clarita), in Santa Clarita, California
  • Canyon High School (Canyon, Texas), in Canyon, Texas
 will be attending Air Force Academy Preparatory School.

Accepted to the United States Military Academy United States Military Academy, at West Point, N.Y.; for training young men and women to be officers in the U.S. army; founded and opened in 1802. The original act provided that the Corps of Engineers stationed at West Point should constitute a military academy, but  at West Point, N.Y., are Ivan Cho, Hart High School Hart High School may refer to:

James Brousseau of Paraclete High School will be attending Military Academy Preparatory School. Thomas Morrow, another Paraclete graduate, received an appointment to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Lance LaFlamme of Canyon High School earned an appointment to Naval Academy Preparatory School The Naval Academy Preparatory School, or NAPS is the preparatory school for the United States Naval Academy and United States Coast Guard Academy, located at NETC, Newport, Rhode Island. .

Each year, members of Congress submit nominations of students from their districts for admission to one of the five service academies -- the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.; and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

Each student entering a service academy receives formal military training, a bachelor's degree and an officer's commission in one of the four branches of the military. The students receiving appointments will enter the academies this fall.
