Rep. Howard ``Buck'' McKeon hopes to work to rebuild the nation's military with his appointments to two subcommittees of the House Armed Services Committee The term Armed Services Committee could refer to:
  • U.S. House Committee on Armed Services
  • U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services
, his spokesman said Thursday.

McKeon, a member of the Armed Services Committee since 1995, also plans to use his position on the Procurement and Readiness subcommittees to help advance a range of projects in his 25th Congressional District Noun 1. congressional district - a territorial division of a state; entitled to elect one member to the United States House of Representatives

``We have defense contractors in all three valleys, and Mr. McKeon will be in a position to push for programs that will strengthen our national security, but will also provide jobs in our community.''

McKeon, a Republican from Santa Clarita, was named to the panels this week by the committee chairman, Rep. Bob Stump Robert Lee (Bob) Stump (April 4, 1927 – June 20, 2003) was a U.S. Congressman from Arizona.

Foy said the Bush administration will be conducting a review of the nation's military and McKeon plans to use his position to advocate for defense needs.

``That's why it's good to have a successful advocate like Mr. McKeon in key committees,'' said Foy, pointing to past defense projects the congressman has worked on.

He added that the congressman believes the military would be a priority under the new administration.
