MCI TO PROVIDE FREE LONG DISTANCE CALLS TO CALIFORNIA FIRE VICTIMS

 LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced that it will provide free long distance calls to victims of the recent California fires.
 Through mobile telephone banks set up by GTE in Malibu and Laguna Beach, MCI will provide free domestic long distance service to residents in the affected areas, while GTE will provide free local calls.
 The phone banks, with eight phones each, will be located at Pacific Coast Highway and Yerba Buena Road in Malibu, the Malibu Community Center near Zuma Street and at the GTE building in Laguna Beach at 295 Broadway.
