MCI STEPS UP SUPPORT OF BLACK COLLEGES
CHICAGO, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corp.

(NASDAQ: MCIC) today announced its support and contribution to the United Negro College Fund Telethon. The telethon is in its 12th year and serves as a major source of funding for historically black colleges and universities.
Lou Hunt, director of human resources of MCI's Chicago-based Central Division, has enthusiasm and commitment for the type of educational funding. "Technological advancements in the workplace demand higher education and training. We see a clear connection between investing in historically black colleges and preparing for the workforce 2000. The challenge is to get more people educated and trained for high-tech, high-service work situations.
"The UNCF is an excellent resource to help channel funds into 41 black colleges and universities, and we're pleased to participate in the UNCF Telethon effort," he added.
Hunt was recently appointed to the director of human resources position for MCI's Central Division. Prior to joining MCI, in 1985, he had a distinguished 22-year career with the U.S. Air Force.
MCI's Central Division serves Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., MCI provides a full range of services to businesses, residences, and government agencies. With 1990 revenue of $7.68 billion, the company owns and operates the world's second-largest communications network, employing advanced fiber optics, microwave, satellite and digital switching technologies.
