MCI STANDS BY 'FRESH LOOK' CLAIM

NEW YORK, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC):
"Despite AT&T's attempt once again to create marketplace confusion, MCI stands behind its claim that Ceridian is the first company to announce that it will exercise its 'Fresh Look' right," said MCI National Account President Jonathan Crane.
According to the FCC, an AT&T customer under a service arrangement subject to "Fresh Look" who elects to stay with AT&T is "waiving its Fresh Look" right, as apparently was the case with Kemper, an AT&T Tariff 12 customer during these past several years. On the other hand, AT&T customers who elect to switch to another carrier under "Fresh Look," such as reflected in today's announcement by Ceridian Corporation to move its long distance traffic from AT&T to MCI, are "exercising" their Fresh Look right.
"Call it anything you like, MCI continues to take business away from AT&T and that's a call that is ringing loud and clear," added Crane. "We believe when companies examine the real advantages Fresh Look offers, they, too, will make the call to MCI."
Fresh Look is the term given to an FCC order that allows AT&T customers under AT&T Tariff 12, Tariff 16 or SDN-NRA Express agreements to discontinue these agreements without financial penalty during the 90 days following the start of 800 portability on May 3.
