MCI CHOOSES SOUTHEAST FINANCIAL CENTER AS SITE
FOR FLORIDA TELEPHONE RELAY SERVICE CENTER
MIAMI, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corp. (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced that The Southeast Financial Center will be the site for the Florida Telephone Relay Service Center, a statewide telecommunications facility serving individuals with hearing and speech disabilities.
MCI was recently awarded a three-year contract by the Florida Public Service Commission to streamline statewide telecommunications relay services into a single relay center.
In establishing the relay center at The Southeast Financial Center, MCI will initially occupy 20,000 square feet of space on the sixth floor with expansion capability up to 100,000 square feet.
The relay center will begin operations in June and eventually employ 250.
"MCI chose Miami as the site for the Relay Service Center because the city has a strong base of potential employees to staff the center," said Bob Goldsmith, MCI vice president - national accounts.
"Also, Miami civic leaders, including members of The Beacon Council and Team Miami, actively pursued the opportunities the relay center will offer the community," said Goldsmith.
Hines Interests Limited Partnership and Bush Klein Realty of Miami worked with MCI to complete the leasing arrangement.
"MCI wanted to house the Relay Center operations in a centrally located building that would offer comfortable working conditions," said Jay Perkins of Bush Klein Realty. "The Southeast Financial Center proved to be an excellent fit."
Located at 200 S. Biscayne Blvd., The Southeast Financial Center, at 55 stories, is the largest class A building in Miami.
