MCI ANNOUNCES WIRELESS AND INTERNATIONAL ACCESS OPTIONS FOR MCI MAIL.


ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 1996--MCI announced today two new access options for its MCI Mail (messaging) MCI Mail - The first commercial Internet electronic mail service, launched by MCI in about 1981. Vint Cerf was the chief engineer.

Reading mail was free but you had to pay to send. Users discovered you could communicate for free by sharing an account.
 customers -- a new wireless access to MCI Mail using XstreamAir and increased international access via Concert Packet Services.

Effective immediately, MCI Mail users can now send and receive e-mail messages even without a phone line with MCI's new wireless access service for MCI Mail. Using a cellular phone connected to a personal computer, customers simply dial an MCI (1) (Media Control Interface) A high-level programming interface from Microsoft and IBM for controlling multimedia devices. It provides commands and functions to open, play and close the device.

 XstreamAir access number and connect to MCI Mail and all of it's delivery options. The wireless access option is available nationwide where there is cellular service.

XstreamAir is a dial up data network service that supports reliable circuit switched cellular data calls to host data applications such as MCI Mail. By accessing XstreamAir, which supports data correction protocols MNP (Microcom Networking Protocol) A family of communications protocols from Microcom, Inc., Norwood, MA, that have become de facto standards for error correction (classes 2 through 4) and data compression (class 5). MCI ADDS LOWER COST INTERNATIONAL ACCESS TO MCI MAIL

MCI also announced, effective September 1, increased international accessibility of MCI Mail to 48 countries via the global Concert Packet Services(a) network -- a global data packet network operated by Concert, the BT-MCI joint venture for global services. The rate for using the service is $.35/minute, except in Canada where the rate will be $.06/minute.

MCI Mail Global Access (MMGA)(b) continues to be an alternative access method outside the U.S., and is available in 32 countries at a rate of $.50/minute, with Datapac (a Canadian data packet network) access available in Canada for $.15/minute. In some countries, both MMGA and Concert Packet Services access will be offered giving customers a choice in access options. Without Concert Packet Services or MCI Mail Global Access, customers would need to make prior arrangements with the local telecommunications provider or place a long distance call to the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America.
