Further, MCG will create MCG Ventures, a $100 million fund that focuses on investing in media, communications and technology businesses. The company is also changing its name to MCG Capital Corporation to better reflect its current and ongoing business activities. Vestar managing director Norm Alpert said, "Our investment in MCG Capital continues our strategy of partnering with strong management teams in select markets." MCG describes those markets as three converging con·verge v. con·verged, con·verg·ing, con·verg·es v.intr. 1. a. To tend toward or approach an intersecting point: lines that converge. b. industries to which it will provide capital: media, communications, and technology. MCG's Andrew Jacobson, a newsletter veteran, said that the company is "talking with a number of newsletter publishers." He told NL/NL, "Some of the potential deals involve acquisitions while in other cases we would provide funding to help newsletter publishers get on the web."
