MAZDA TEAMS UP WITH DETROIT FREE PRESS FOR THIRD YEAR
DETROIT, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda today announced it will team

up with the Detroit Free Press for a third consecutive year to sponsor the 15th annual Detroit Free Press/Mazda International Marathon on Oct. 18, 1992.
The route has been changed for the 1992 race so participants can enjoy a more scenic and smoother course. The course change will include a picturesque run along the Detroit River, a circle around Belle Isle and a finish at Detroit's Hart Plaza. However, the 26.2-mile marathon will retain its international flair as the starting line remains in Windsor, Canada, and the route continues to lead runners through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.
"We're pleased to have Mazda back as sponsor of the marathon while we celebrate sponsorship of our 15th straight race and the 30th Detroit marathon," said Neal Shine, Detroit Free Press publisher.
"Mazda takes great pride in celebrating this Detroit sports tradition," said Muneo Kishimoto, chairman of Mazda (North America), Inc. "It's rewarding for us to participate in this event which raises funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and closely unites participants, volunteers, sponsors, the city and corporations alike."
This year the overall purse for the marathon will be $35,000. Open race winners (both men and women) will receive $5,000 and master's winners will receive $2,000.
The 1992 Detroit Free Press/Mazda International Marathon draws a field of about 3,000 and is annually rated by Runner's World Magazine as one of the top 20 in the nation.
