MAZDA ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY RECALLS

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda today announced it is voluntarily recalling 15,822 of its 1991 and 1992 model B-Series pickup trucks equipped with the white steel-spoked wheels and all 3,200 accessory hardtop hoists sold for use with the detachable hardtop on the Mazda MX-5 Miata sports car.
The company has found that the white steel-spoked wheels may have been improperly welded during assembly. These wheels may crack, possibly causing a rapid loss of tire pressure and subsequent loss of vehicle control.
Owners of the affected trucks are being asked by mail to bring their vehicles to an authorized Mazda dealer for the inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the wheels. The procedure takes approximately 2.5 hours and will be performed free of charge.
With the accessory Miata hardtop hoists, Mazda has found that the plastic buckles of the securing strap on the hoist could fail, resulting in possible damage to the hardtop.
Owners of the accessory hardtop hoist are being asked to ship the set of straps with the plastic buckle to Mazda via pre-paid UPS. Replacement straps with steel buckles will be sent to them free of charge.
