MAYNARD PUSHES DAT CAPACITY TO 4GB WITH DATA COMPRESSION
AND CUTS PRICES ON 2GB DAT DRIVES
LAKE MARY, Fla., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Maynard Electronics, an Archive(R) company, has doubled the storage capacity of its award- winning line of MaynStream(R) DAT drives with the introduction of the MaynStream 4000DAT system with hardware data compression. The MaynStream 4000DAT drive will begin shipping in August with suggested retail prices ranging from $5,495 to $5,995.
Designed to offer heterogeneous platform support in LAN environments, the MaynStream 4000DAT drive offers a typical data compression storage capacity of 4GB (8GB maximum capacity) on a single tape, and increases the typical effective data transfer speed of the unit to 366KB per second (732KB/second maximum) from the non-compressed rate of 183KB per second of the MaynStream 2000DAT system.
In a related price move, Maynard has cut the price of its MaynStream 2000DAT tape backup line up to 24 percent. Effective immediately, the new suggested list price for a portable ISA/EISA compatible MaynStream 2000DAT tape backup unit is $4,595, a price reduction of $1,400 from its original list price of $5,995. Suggested retail pricing on internal ISA/EISA compatible MaynStream 2000DAT tape backup units are also reduced and are now priced at only $4,140, from the original list price of $5,495. The award-winning MaynStream 2000DAT drive offers a maximum storage capacity of 2GB, a data transfer rate of 183KB per second and a high-speed search and rewind at 200 times the speed of consumer-grade DAT devices.
In addition to this price move, all new MaynStream DAT backup units purchased prior to Sept. 30, 1992, qualify for the MaynStream super bundle of software promotion. Four MaynStream software packages, MaynStream NLM, MaynStream for Windows, MaynStream for OS/2 and MaynStream for DOS software, will be included with every purchase of a MaynStream DAT tape backup system for the cost of a single MaynStream for DOS system. This bundle of software represents a cost savings of up to $1,350 based on individual purchases of MaynStream software under the Maynard(R) software upgrade program.
"MaynStream DAT systems combined with the Maynard super bundle of software promotion provide the performance, capacity and heterogeneous platform support needed for even the most demanding LAN environments," said Chris Tipton, vice president of Maynard's Systems Business Group.
The super bundle of software promotion is designed to make it easy for users and resellers to standardize on the Maynard Tape Format, recently licensed by Microsoft(A), as an industry standard, multi- platform tape backup format. The two newest software packages included in the promotion, MaynStream NLM and MaynStream for Windows(TM) software, began shipping this spring. MaynStream NLM software, selected as the winner of "Editor's Choice" by Computer Technology Review, is a fully integrated NetWare(A) 386 server-based data management solution and is ideal for network backup. MaynStream for Windows software, selected as a winner of the Windows Magazine "WinAwards" top 100 Windows products, is the basis for the Maynard data backup services recently licensed by Microsoft(A) for inclusion in the Microsoft Windows NT operating system and is designed for both individual PC and network users.
In order to ensure compatibility within the product line, all tapes created by any of the MaynStream software solutions included in the promotion can be read and restored by all MaynStream software including: MaynStream NLM, MaynStream for Windows, MaynStream for OS/2, MaynStream for DOS, MaxStream(R) for Macintosh(A) computers and LANStream(R) products. This compatibility provides a simple and convenient way to move files between different operating systems while allowing the backup system to evolve along with the network.
Based in Lake Mary, Fla., Maynard is a global leader in backup systems with annual sales in excess of $150 million. Maynard offers a complete selection of cassette, cartridge, minicartridge, 4mm DAT, and 8mm tape drives for the IBM(A)-compatible PC, PS/2(A), RISC System/6000(A), DEC(A), NeXT(A), Sun Microsystems(A), and Apple(A) Macintosh(A) computers.
