MAXXAM INC. CHAIRMAN HURWITZ ISSUES STATEMENT
 CONCERNING CONTINENTAL AIRLINES
HOUSTON, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by MAXXAM Inc. (AMEX: MXM) Chairman Charles E. Hurwitz on Nov. 9, 1992:
"We are pleased to have played a key role in ensuring Continental's emergence from bankruptcy.
"Our initial offer prompted other bids and, therefore, brought added value to Continental. This is important to Continental, to its employees, to the communities it serves, and to the goal of preserving and enhancing airline competition.
"As we said in our initial announcement in July, Continental has a number of fundamental strengths: good routes, competitive costs, strong management, and a dedicated team of employees. The in-depth knowledge we developed during the months of work on this proposal confirmed these strengths time and again.
"We wish the successful bidder and everyone at Continental all the best. The traveling public and Houston need and deserve a strong, Houston-based Continental Airlines."
